POLITICAL MESSAGE

POLITICAL MESSAGE OF THE 2025 LJUBLJANA PRIDE PARADE

SYSTEM

REBOOTING.

COMMUNITY

PERSISTS.

Dear LGBTIQ+ allies, supporters and community members,

2025 is a critical year – both in Slovenian society and the broader European and global context. The events marking
our current reality – from the spread of authoritarian discourse, wars and geopolitical tensions to digital abuse and
global technological transformations – have a disproportionate and systemic effect on already vulnerable
communities, including LGBTIQ+ people.

The LGBTIQ+ communities in Slovenia and around the world live in a time when technological progress is often used
as a means of control, while politics is turning into an arena for the normalisation of hate. Control tightens in the name
of
modernisation”, violence escalates in the name of “free speech” and our right to exist is being taken away in the
name of
“traditional values”.

Our key message “The system upgrades. The community perseveres.” highlights two aspects: the subtle and
proliferating forms of institutional control, exclusion and repression on the one hand, and the strength, solidarity and
unwavering persistence of the LGBTIQ+ community resisting this process, on the other.

In recent years, Slovenia has experienced an alarming rise in hate speech and hate crime targeting the LGBTIQ+
community. According to the 2024 ENACT Report, 23 cases of hate crime were recorded in Slovenia over a period of
18 months. In the same period, NGOs saw a significant increase in violence and harassment reports compared to
previous years. The actual number of incidents is estimated to be much higher due to low reporting rates, as most
victims fail to report incidents because of fear, experience with unresponsive institutions or the risk of personal
exposure. Slovenia still has no official record of hate crime statistics based on sexual orientation or gender identity,
which means that hate remains systemically overlooked and often goes unpunished. The State’s indifference fosters
a culture of impunity with regard to intolerance and threatens the very foundations of human dignity.

Another worrying trend is the surge in violence on digital platforms. Conflict- and hate-driven algorithms prioritise
profits over the safety of vulnerable individuals. The use of AI and biometric systems in repressive contexts reinforces
inequalities and facilitates targeted discrimination against already marginalised groups.

This is not only a matter of online safety but the systemic protection of human rights in the digital age. The
consequences of digital violence are deep, lasting and far from virtual.

Therefore, we do not call for tolerance – but demand accountability:

  1. 1. Heavier penalties for hate crimes against LGBTIQ+ people.
    2. The legal responsibility of digital platforms for content spreading hate and disinformation.
    3. The introduction of a nation-wide programme for inclusive education on LGBTIQ+ diversity – with zero tolerance for
    discrimination.

    4. Legislation that would protect digital rights and prevent the abuse of AI.

The 2025 Pride Parade is much more than a celebration of identities – it is a warning,a call for social transformation
and demand for systemic justice. A call for a radical social transformation. A demand for a system based on justice –
not on privilege. A reminder that, without equality for all, there is no freedom for any of us.

We persist not despite the system but because of its injustice. Our love is our resistance. Our pride is our shield. Our
fight is political.

If we stay silent today, silence will reign tomorrow. We march onward – with pride, unity and determination.
