At the systemic level, LGBTIQ+ people repeatedly experience discrimination and exclusion, while our countries are bound to uphold the right to non-discrimination and equal treatment for all. Should we fight with the system, or against the system, by always demanding equal and non-discriminatory treatment and inclusion? To what extent does this make sense, if at all? Is it even possible to achieve equality and inclusion within the existing system? On the other hand, history is full of examples of oppressed social groups that have built their survival mechanisms through parallel, even ghettoised mechanisms, structures, communities… When is it time to build your own parallel system, parallel world? And how do utopias serve us in this story? Can we fight for truly radical social and systemic change without having utopian ideas about what we want to achieve? About how it would be if we did? Ideas about a different, ideal world? And what happens if a community succeeds, or fails, in building a common vision of this utopian tomorrow? How is this reflected within the LGBTIQ+ community(-ies)?
