The event will address the impact of the media on the public image of the LGBTIQ+ community and the increase in hate attacks both online and on the streets. We will discuss the role of journalists in shaping public opinion and in either spreading or mitigating hatred. We will analyze the consequences of disinformation (fake news) in a time of increasing social polarization and talk about the ethical code of all those working in the media.<\/p>\n
In an era of rapid information dissemination and the widespread phenomenon of fake news, the media play a crucial role in shaping opinions about the LGBTIQ+ community. This roundtable will explore issues such as journalistic responsibility, the importance of accurate and inclusive communication, and strategies for identifying and preventing misinformation. Panelists will examine examples of good and bad practices, the challenges LGBTIQ+ people face in media representation, and how media literacy can contribute to building a more inclusive society.<\/p>\n

Prof. Dr. Roman Kuhar holds a PhD in Sociology. He earned his doctorate with a dissertation titled \u201cIntimate Citizenship: Private Choices, Public Policies and Everyday Life of Gays and Lesbians.\u201d He has worked as a journalist for Radio Slovenia and as a researcher at the Peace Institute, where he participated in numerous European research projects related to gender equality, discrimination, homophobia, citizenship, and human rights.<\/p>\n
Prof. Dr. Marko Milosavljevi\u0107 is a professor in the Journalism Department at the Faculty of Social Sciences, where he currently also serves as head of the Department of Communication. He earned his doctorate with a dissertation titled \u201cJournalistic Narrative in the Context of the Political Economy of Mass Media.\u201d<\/p>\n
Neo Nova is the director of the Transfeminist Initiative TransAkcija Institute, a non-governmental organization that works to support and advocate for transgender people in Slovenia.<\/p>\n
Mitja Bla\u017ei\u010d is a human rights activist, especially focused on the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals. Among other things, he co-founded the DIH Association with his partner, and together they became the first same-sex couple to register a same-sex partnership. He was a longtime radio journalist, briefly worked in television, and served on the editorial board of Narobe Magazine.<\/p>\n
