SUMMARY:Kings & Queens & Criminal Queers
DESCRIPTION:The event will be held in Slovenian.Accessibility for people with mobility impairments: Yes \nMarijo Zupanov explores queer life in Ljubljana through photography\, focusing on identity\, self-expression and often-overlooked community moments. His work documents processes taking place behind the scenes and highlights people and events that mainstream society may dismiss as trivial\, showing them as vital parts of our shared world. While his 2023 project Pleasures (Užitki) centred on gay erotica\, his latest work expands to include diverse queer identities. \nDespite doubts about how photography connects to queer bodies\, Zupanov’s portraits celebrate their visibility\, courage and beauty. \nExhibition Kings & Queens & Criminal Queers His exhibition Kings & Queens & Criminal Queers adds new Polaroids to his archive – visual traces of lived experiences\, discrimination and resistance. The title draws inspiration from the melancholic song “Beautiful Boys”\, echoing themes of rejection\, survival and self-discovery. \n

SUMMARY:RAINBOW NATION
DESCRIPTION:The event will be held in English with Slovene subtitles. \nJoin us for the premiere screening of the powerful documentary Rainbow Nation directed by Ilse Schooneknaep in Marieke Dermul. The film exposes the painful reality of South Africa—a country where LGBTQIA+ rights may be enshrined in law\, but violence\, hatred and discrimination remain a part of daily life.. \nThrough deeply moving personal testimonies\, Rainbow Nation reveals the stark contrast between a progressive constitution and a brutal reality: over 500 lesbian women are raped every year solely because of their sexual orientation. Many transgender individuals face constant threats of violence. And yet\, at the very heart of danger—in the Soweto township—the activist event Soweto Pride takes place each year\, where the queer community stands firm: We exist. We are here. \, We will not disappear. \nThe screening will be followedby a discussion with guests from South Africa\, who will share their first-hand experiences. The conversation will be moderated by Simona Muršec. \nEntry: 3€

SUMMARY:Queer Cinema for Palestine: No Pride in Genocide
DESCRIPTION:The event will be held in Slovenian and English.Accessibility for people with mobility impairments: Yes \nWe invite you to join us for a screening of eight short films curated by Queer Cinema for Palestine\, which will be followed by a discussion with artist\, video artist\, performer and painter Ana Čigon on art’s position in resistance and the liberation struggle. \nQueer Cinema for Palestine (QCP) is a collectively curated global film festival celebrating queer realities and standing in solidarity with the struggle of the Palestinian people for freedom\, justice and dignity. \nThe third edition of QCP\, under the slogan “No Pride in Genocide”brings together grassroots\, solidarity and arts organisations from across the globe to host screenings of a stellar\, collectively curated short film programme. \nThis year’s programme focuses on the work of queer Palestinian and allied artists across locales\, in historic Palestine and the diaspora\, on various identities\, lengths\, styles and genres (doc-hybrid\, experimental\, fiction and animation) to highlight art’s position in resistance and the liberation struggle. \nThe full programme is available at: https://queercinemaforpalestine.org/2025/04/18/film-program-queer-cinema-for-palestine-2025/ \nQueer Cinema for Palestine began as an alternative ethical space for filmmakers who pulled out or refused to show their work at the Israeli government-sponsored TLVFest LGBTQ Film Festival. Over the past six years\, hundreds of filmmakers have shown their solidarity in response to the boycott call from queer and trans Palestinians. \nIsrael continues to attempt to instrumentalise LGBTIQ+ identities to justify its genocide against Palestinians\, including by murdering\, blackmailing and imprisoning queer and trans Palestinians. The Israeli government actively promotes a pinkwashing agenda designed to portray itself in a positive light because it offers some rights to some members of the LGBTQIA+ community\, while distracting attention from the daily reality of its military occupation\, apartheid\, settler colonialism and violent racism against Palestinians.

SUMMARY:Algorithms of Discrimination: How Technology Is Silencing Us
DESCRIPTION:The event will be held in Slovenian and English.Accessibility for people with mobility impairments: Yes \nThe digital age offers numerous opportunities for social progress\, but at the same time it also reproduces — and sometimes even deepens — existing biases\, including homophobia and transphobia. Artificial intelligence systems\, often perceived as neutral\, reflect discriminatory patterns present in the data they are trained on. \nDuring the workshop\, we will examine how algorithms\, social media moderation tools\, and digital platforms affect the visibility\, safety\, and representation of LGBTIQ+ people. Through concrete examples\, we will address ethical challenges in technology development and explore ways to create a more inclusive digital environment. The workshop will also highlight the role of activism at the intersection of technology and LGBTIQ+ human rights.

Directed by Aleks Jovčić\, this play offers an in-depth insight into Helena’s life and her personal journey through injustice\, pain and joy.The story focuses on the conflict between the patriarchal and conservative environment represented by the military and the liberal environment of the LGBTIQ+ community. Through this contrast\, the complexity of Helena’s life is revealed\, as well as the beauty and challenges of trans/queer life in Serbia. Important themes such as difference\, courage and honesty are central to the performance\, highlighting the necessity of authenticity and honesty in a society that often rejects those who do not fit into established norms. “Major and Helena” encourages us to reflect on how much courage it takes to be who we are in a conservative society. At the same time\, it also offers a message of comfort and support to those who feel lonely or rejected for being different.

Should we fight with the system\, or against the system\, by always demanding equal and non-discriminatory treatment and inclusion? To what extent does this make sense\, if at all? Is it even possible to achieve equality and inclusion within the existing system? On the other hand\, history is full of examples of oppressed social groups that have built their survival mechanisms through parallel\, even ghettoised mechanisms\, structures\, communities… When is it time to build your own parallel system\, parallel world? And how do utopias serve us in this story? Can we fight for truly radical social and systemic change without having utopian ideas about what we want to achieve? About how it would be if we did? Ideas about a different\, ideal world? And what happens if a community succeeds\, or fails\, in building a common vision of this utopian tomorrow? How is this reflected within the LGBTIQ+ community(-ies)?

With experts from Slovenia and abroad\, we will examine how these challenges impact youth and housing policies\, as well as the accessibility and adequacy of public services\, particularly for those facing homelessness. It is common for young LGBTIQ+ individuals to go back into the closet when accessing public services for the homeless or socially disadvantaged\, aiming for easier service access. Similar practices are observed among young LGBTIQ+ individuals in institutional care. We will discuss advocacy practices\, methods and tools for accessing public services and ensuring safe institutional living for LGBTIQ+ youth with our guest experts to understand the phenomenon from different perspectives. In the second part of the conference\, we will explore the importance of alliances in ensuring the safety of young LGBTIQ+ individuals experiencing housing instability and homelessness. We will discuss opportunities for collaboration between NGOs working in the LGBTIQ+ community and those addressing housing and social difficulties. The conference will also include a presentation of collaboration protocols developed within the framework of the Alliances For Safe Rainbow Housing project in partnership with ILGA Europe. \nSign-up required for organisational purposes. It serves as an approach that fosters connection\, centers on the individuals we serve\, and aligns our shared ethics with collective care\, rather than capitalist notions of self-care. Through conceptual inputs\, discussions\, and exercises\, we explore this zone as a means of combating burnout and disconnection by shifting the framework away from the individual towards systemic shortcomings and oppression. The ultimate aim is to cultivate Zones of Fabulousness and Solidarity Teams\, enabling us as activists to maintain meaningful connections and prioritize our shared values and the people working alongside us at the heart of our activism. \nSign-up required due to the limited group size. It creates a space where performers do not have to adapt performances and themes that might not be appropriate on a traditional stage\, a space where the “ugly” becomes beautiful\, the non-normative is desirable\, the “unattractive” is attractive … It is one of the few stages where mistakes are allowed or even desired\, and the only limit is creativity. The cabaret format is designed to support the performers’ content\, desires and pleasures; thus in the DIY Cabaret “Feminism Is No Joke”\, all types of artistic expressions are welcome. The event seeks to create a safe space for everyone present\, and no form of oppression (racism\, sexism\, ageism\, oppression based on sexual orientation or gender or any other form of oppression) is tolerated. The DIY Cabaret series was created as a response to the eviction of the AT Rog community in 2016. From the very beginning\, the performance has functioned as an open stage for artists in AT Rog\, the wider community and international artists visiting Slovenia. The initiator of the project\, Danijela Zajc\, invites different creators to each edition.
